More than 110 years ago, the trains on the Yunnan-Vietnam Railway or the Gebishi Railway were all steam locomotives. Each locomotive has a coal and water carriage. It was a regular task for the people to add water and coal after arriving at the station to power source of the locomotive. Water can be used to cool the steam engine, decelerate the train and even fueling, by sprinkling the right amount of water on the coal, the oxygen generated by water decomposition making the furnace fire burn more vigorously. At the peak season, Bisezhai station received more than 80 pairs of trains passing by every day. Numbers of water towers had to be built to storage water. There are three century-old water towers here, next to century-old fire hydrants inscribed with French markings. Another water tower, which was riveted together by the French with iron plates, used the principle of pressure to install a water level meter outside the water tower. So that by looking at the position of the float, people can tell the water storage.
